Installation Guide for RV Water Pump

Tools and Materials Needed:

  • 12V RV Water Pump
  • Screwdriver
  • Pliers
  • Wire Strippers/Cutters
  • Hose Clamps
  • Flexible Water Hose
  • Electrical Tape or Heat Shrink Tubing
  • Teflon Tape
  • Mounting Screws
  • Water Filter (optional but recommended)

Steps to Install:

  1. Choose a Location:
    • Select a dry, accessible location close to the water tank and within reach of the power source.
    • Ensure there is adequate ventilation around the pump for cooling.
  2. Mount the Pump:
    • Use the mounting screws to secure the pump to a solid surface. Ensure the pump is mounted horizontally to prevent air from being trapped in the pump.
  3. Connect the Inlet Hose:
    • Attach a flexible water hose to the pump’s inlet port.
    • Use Teflon tape on the threads to ensure a watertight seal.
    • Secure the hose with a hose clamp.
  4. Connect the Outlet Hose:
    • Attach a flexible water hose to the pump’s outlet port.
    • Again, use Teflon tape on the threads for a tight seal.
    • Secure the hose with a hose clamp.
    • If using a water filter, install it on the outlet side to filter the water before it reaches your faucets.
  5. Electrical Connections:
    • Strip the ends of the power wires from the pump.
    • Connect the red wire from the pump to the positive (+) terminal of the 12V power source.
    • Connect the black wire from the pump to the negative (-) terminal or ground.
    • Use wire connectors or crimping tools to secure the connections.
    • Cover the connections with electrical tape or heat shrink tubing to protect them from moisture and corrosion.
  6. Priming the Pump:
    • Before turning on the pump, ensure there is water in the tank to prevent the pump from running dry.
    • Open all faucets in your RV to allow air to escape from the lines.
  7. Test the Pump:
    • Turn on the power to the pump.
    • The pump should start running and build pressure in the water lines.
    • Once the system is pressurized, the pump will turn off automatically.
    • Check for any leaks around the connections and tighten as necessary.
  8. Adjust the Pressure (if needed):
    • Some pumps come with an adjustable pressure switch. Refer to the pump’s manual for instructions on adjusting the pressure settings if required.
  9. Routine Maintenance:
    • Regularly check the pump and connections for leaks.
    • Clean or replace the water filter as needed to maintain water quality.
    • Inspect the hoses and clamps periodically for signs of wear or damage.

Additional Tips:

  • Use a Pre-filter: Installing a pre-filter on the inlet side can help protect the pump from debris and prolong its lifespan.
  • Noise Reduction: To reduce noise and vibrations, consider placing a rubber mat or mounting the pump on rubber grommets.
  • Winterization: If you’re in an area with freezing temperatures, ensure you properly winterize the pump and water lines to prevent damage.
